Most of my playing lately has been quieter coffeehouse/church kind of stuff. Carting a separate head & cab to weekly rehearsals and periodic gigs was more stuff & complication than I wanted to haul. Lazy, I know. So I was looking for a combo that was not significantly larger or heavier than a single Schroeder 15+L (my cabs - around 30lbs each an not too large) with the same kind of tone I got from my Carvin head/Schroeder setup. And if it could use one of the Schroeders as an extension cab that would be a bonus (but difficult as they are 4Ohms).
My answer was to try and assemble the mini-combo of my dreams. I started with a Carvin BR12 combo - discontinued a
few years ago but the right size and has built-in tiltback which I like quite a bit. I was able to remove the stock
120W head from it and slide in my Carvin BX500 (300/500W) as a replacement. That was a good start but the driver was a
bit overmatched. I plan on dropping in an Eminence Kappalite 3012HO and see if that gives me the tone & volume I
want in a tiny package.
