Carvin LS1503

This is a 3-way PA cab that a few intrepid techies on Talkbass determined would make a nice bass cabinet. I monitored that discussion and decided to take the plunge. They are very smooth, relatively flat and seem to handle plenty of power with aplomb. I had been thinking about Acme Low B2s but these are more sensitive (louder) and cheaper. They also serve double duty as I can still use them for PA cabs (and run bass through them) or as part of the amplification for my wind synthesizer rig.

The one fly in the ointment has been that Carvin apparently had some problems with their crossover vendor around the time I bought my cabs. I'm in the process of working with Carvin to fix some buzzing issues which are being addressed by swapping out the crossovers. I've swapped out both crossovers and in the end I think one may have been defective ("may have been" - I'm not 100% sure). I also had a tweeter that had a mechanical vibration problem that got replaced. Now I've got both going great and am enjoying the sound they put out. I did swap the 15" drivers for Eminence 3015LF Neo drivers soley for the weight drop (only a few pounds but every bit helps) - I was plenty satisfied with the tone, low end extension and power handling of the original Carvin drivers.

The first picture shows the LS1503 in the center compared to an Avatar B210Neo and an Avatar B212Neo that I had when I first tried the LS1503s. I've since sold off all my bass-specific cabinets to rely on the Carvins.

Here are a couple of pictures of the whole rig - Carvin BX1200 up top and the pair of LF'ed LS1503s on the bottom (you can see the silver rings from the 3015LFs). One is with me and one with me and my roadie (son).
