Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is another Unesco World Heritage site. It was the capital of of the Mughal empire under Emporer Akbar, at least for the 15 years it was in use. Akbar had Muslim, Hindu and Christian wives all of whom had their own quarters in the palace and symbolism from all the religions are present throughout the complex. One of the courtyard areas had a large parcheesi board built into it where the emporer would play the game with dancing girls as the pieces.

The white tomb of Salim Chishti, a Sufi saint, is in the complex as well. For luck you put cloth on the tomb (later given to the poor), cast flowers on it and then tie threads through the latticework of the tomb while making a wish. This we did.
